Project 01 · Mothering in the Contemporary World

Mothering
in the Contemporary
World

If you could choose just one photograph to speak about your life as a mother today—

which one would you choose?

ABOUT THE PROJECT

HOW SHE LIVES|她 · 如何 is a long-term international participatory visual project in which women use photographs they have already made—and the stories they choose to tell—to record lived experience. It does not begin with a fixed idea of what women’s lives should look like. It begins with individual voices, allowing similarities, differences and contradictions to remain visible alongside one another.

Project 01, Mothering in the Contemporary World, begins with motherhood—not as a single identity or experience, but as something lived differently by every woman.

TAKE PART

Open your
camera roll.

Don’t look for the best photograph. Scroll back slowly. Look for the one that makes you stop. If that photograph feels connected to your life as a mother today, we would like to hear why.

Choose the route that applies to you. Research use, public presentation and future contact are handled separately in the participation form.
